Loss

Creating is more the just making something we can hold in our hands, we can also create with words and song.

It seems fitting for Mother's Day to see this mothers way of coping after the loss of her artist son. Creating doesn't always come from a place of peace but often as in her story as a way of expressing sorrow in search of peace.

Master of the Tree

George Nakashima's woodworking and style have influenced so many, including myself. His work combines many styles and became a signature of his own. One of the favorite books in my library is The Soul of a Tree written by Nakashima.

This video for Craft in America is a great look into his life and philosophies.

Made by Hand

We all create. Some of us create with wood, some with metal, others glass, and on and on. Instinctively we all want to create something, it's what has kept us as humans moving forward with knowledge and achievement. That's what WeCreateThis is about sharing those who make, those who create.

Made by Hand is a series of amazingly beautiful and inspiring short films on things made by hand. This is one of my favorites called The Knife Maker.
